Bayazid Bastami was a Persian Sufi. His grandfather was Mazdaean. He is said to belong to the Sufi School of intoxication as opposed to Junayd of Baghdad alternative, which is the school of Sobriety.

This night is time for deep contemplation

My unwavering trust in God’s glory

Shall raise me high-borne to the blessed Isle

Where my spirit will once again proclaim
